Voices in the Ocean by Susan Casey
Humans and dolphins have a unique bond. We know that dolphins are highly intelligent, intensely sociable beings who recognize their own reflections, introduce themselves by name, form close friendships, and communicate constantly. Many who have swum with them describe the experience as life-changing. Voices in the Ocean is at once a celebration of these beloved animals and a devastating chronicle of the damage wrought when human and dolphin worlds meet.
We continue to expand our educational offerings for children and teenagers with the Soneva Academy. There are currently five courses that can be taken, covering a range of topics that are intrinsically linked to our resorts in the Maldives.
Marine Life of the Maldives
Marine Life of the Maldives lets participants learn about coral reefs and their importance as an ecosystem, learning about scientific surveys and carrying out a small survey on the house reef. Each of these courses has three modules (USD 150++ per module), over three days, with an exam at the end.
Available under Soneva Academy The Adventure of the Corbin combines nautical history with reading the stars to navigate and survival tips for being deserted on a small Maldivian island. They will spend two nights on an uninhabited island, snorkel the site of the Corbin’s wreck and re-live the adventure of 17th century sailors. The Adventure of the Corbin is for three nights, three-and-a-half days, with a fully inclusive price of USD 1,500 ++ per child when travelling by speedboat, or USD 2,500 ++ per child when travelling on Soneva in Aqua.
During the festive seasons, summer and half term holidays, we regularly partner with Oppidan Education. This is so our younger guests can get a leg up on their fellow students with complimentary group workshops by these UK-based mentoring experts at Soneva Fushi and Soneva Jani.
The Oppidan team organises camps for children aged 7 and up, with sessions taking place each day from 10:30 to 12:30. Workshops include themes like the Roman Empire, Faces & Places Challenge, Dragon’s Den, and Public Speaking. Private sessions focusing on a particular subject or general mentoring are also available for USD 175++ per hour.
Introducing our latest offerings and one-of-a-kind activities
Need for Speed: eSurf and eFoil
Soneva Fushi’s water sports offering just got faster, and you don’t need a speedboat for the extra knots!
What happens if you fit a surfboard with a motor? You get an eSurf-board with a carbon fibre body that is hydrodynamic and stable. The board houses the motor, which you control using a handheld throttle. Our eSurf lets you get up to speeds of 56km per hour, making this an exhilarating water sport.
We also now have an eFoil, which uses an advanced battery to power a silent electric motor mounted on an all-carbon fibre hydrofoil. The eFoil’s speed can be adjusted with a wireless Bluetooth hand controller. Riders, from beginners to those already skilled on a board, can fly for over an hour of fun at speeds of up to 40km per hour!
Surf uncrowded breaks, dive among shipwrecks, spot whale sharks, manta rays, and dolphins, and snorkel untouched reefs onboard Soneva in Aqua. The Goidhoo Atoll’s dive and snorkelling sites have vibrant marine life and corals.
A new an exhilarating way to travel beneath the ocean’s surface. Make sure you book a Dolphin Sled session for something out of the ordinary. This underwater experience lets you get a taste for what it is like to be part of a pod of dolphins. Our crew will tow you under the waves on our sled through a pod of playful dolphins.
