In 2008, we introduced a 2% environmental levy on all stays. This goes towards the Soneva Foundation, which invests in a variety of projects that have a positive environmental, social and economic impact, offsetting direct and indirect carbon emissions, such as resort activities and guest flights.
A Soneva Foundation initiative, the Myanmar Stoves Campaign is the country’s first carbon project with Gold Standard certification. We have subsidised the distribution of more than 36,000 fuel-efficient cooking stoves to families in Myanmar and Darfur. Each stove saves 2.5 tonnes of wood per year, reducing pressure on forests and reducing household expenditure. As well as lowering the health risks associated with indoor cooking, each stove also lowers air pollution by 80%, with a 60% reduction in carbon emissions per stove per year.
You can buy carbon credits to fund our ongoing distribution of stoves, improving the lives of families in Myanmar and beyond.
In our 25 years as a trailblazer we have successfully inculcated several world-leading environmental projects.
Meet the real heroes of our sustainability efforts: our Hosts. These passionate, dedicated individuals support and drive our initiatives, from ocean conservation to community outreach.
The Soneva Total Impact Assessment provides the quantitative assessments of all our social and environmental impacts. This includes the direct impacts at our resorts and indirect impacts via our supply chain and guest air travel.
Soneva Fushi has successfully implemented an island-wide, insecticide-free mosquito management solution.
As an equal opportunities employer, our ongoing recruitment drive aims to achieve a more balanced representation of female Hosts at Soneva by providing a safe and respectful living and working environment with a clear career path.
As guardians of our precious marine environments, we have pledged to protect the biodiversity and habitats around our resorts. Our ongoing efforts include partnerships with NGO Save Our Seas, the Olive Ridley Project and the International Pole & Line Foundation, as well as the aim to propagate 50,000 corals at each of our resorts every year. Learn how we are rehabilitating coral in the Maldives.
