Our Responsibility

Stewardship

Protecting What Matters

Soneva was founded on a simple belief: that how we live, travel and connect can be more thoughtful. From the very beginning, luxury and responsibility were not in tension; they were the same thing. Barefoot Luxury was never just about taking your shoes off. It was about knowing what you leave behind.

What followed became a different kind of resort. One shaped by nature, guided by care, and built on the quiet conviction that the most meaningful experiences are also the most responsible ones.

CORAL REEF REGENERATION

Restoring reefs. Building resilience. Sharing the science.

Beneath the waters surrounding Soneva Fushi, coral regeneration is happening at a significant scale.

Through Soneva Conservation & Sustainability Maldives (SCSM), our work brings together large-scale coral restoration, applied science, long-term monitoring, education and community training. Based at AquaTerra, the programme uses more than 10 regeneration methodologies – from land and ocean nurseries to microfragmentation, coral spawning and climate-resilience research.

SONEVA NAMOONA

Change that travels beyond our shores.

Some of the most meaningful change happens beyond the boundaries of our resorts.

Soneva Namoona works with neighbouring Maldivian communities to demonstrate new approaches to sustainability and inspire lasting change. Its philosophy of Reduce, Recycle and Inspire can be seen on nearby Maalhos, where initiatives include an Eco Centro and Soneva Water bottling facility as part of the island’s move away from traditional waste burning.

Guests at Soneva Fushi can visit Maalhos to see these initiatives first-hand, meet members of the community and discover traditions such as weaving with screw pine leaves.

WASTE TO WEALTH

Rethinking what we leave behind.

At Soneva, what is discarded is often just the beginning. Our Eco Centros are at the heart of our Waste-to-Wealth philosophy, where materials are separated, composted, reused or transformed to give them new purpose.

Organic waste is composted on-island and returned to the soil, nourishing our organic gardens and helping to grow ingredients that find their way back to our kitchens and guests’ tables. Glass, metal and other materials are collected and repurposed, extending their life rather than sending them away as waste. Today, 90% of Soneva’s solid waste is recycled, turning what was once considered a problem into a resource.

ART, REIMAGINED

Creativity comes full circle.

At Soneva Fushi, creativity gives discarded materials a new story. At The Glass Studio, the first in the Maldives, glass from Soneva Fushi and neighbouring resorts is transformed into one-of-a-kind works of art, with guests invited to step into the studio and experience the craft of glassblowing for themselves.

At Makers’ Place aluminium cans and plastic bottles are transformed into artworks and useful objects. Together, these creative spaces give overlooked materials another life – creating something unexpected, beautiful and made to last.

Experience it

Step closer to the world around you – discover the life beneath the ocean, find new beauty in what we leave behind and connect more deeply with the islands.

Because understanding a place is the first step towards protecting it.
