Compañía Vinícola del Norte de España (CVNE) stands for ‘Wine Company from the North of Spain’. The company was founded in 1879 by the Real de Asúa brothers, Eusebio and Raimundo. To this day it is owned, controlled and managed by the same family, currently it is in its’ fifth generation and has a glorious 141-year reputation of making one of the most famous wines in Spain.
The 545 hectares of vineyards that CVNE owns are distributed between the two subregions of Rioja Alta and Rioja Alavesa, an area of calcareous clay soils, ferrous clay and alluvial soils, under the influence of the Atlantic and Mediterranean climates.
This winery combines tradition, quality and innovation. In 1940 it was a pioneer in the construction of the first concrete fermentation cellar in Spain. The winery is composed of 22 buildings, which include the original 1879 premises, as well as the plant designed and built by the Eiffel architectural studio in 1909.
