We believe that luxury and sustainability can be interconnected concepts and, since the beginning, have pioneered a business model with sustainability at its heart.
In 2008, we introduced a 2% environmental levy on all stays. This goes towards the Soneva Foundation, which invests in a variety of projects that have a positive environmental, social and economic impact, offsetting direct and indirect carbon emissions, such as resort activities and guest flights.
In our 25 years as a trailblazer we have successfully inculcated several world-leading environmental projects.
Meet the real heroes of our sustainability efforts: our Hosts. These passionate, dedicated individuals support and drive our initiatives, from ocean conservation to community outreach.
The Soneva Total Impact Assessment provides the quantitative assessments of all our social and environmental impacts. This includes the direct impacts at our resorts and indirect impacts via our supply chain and guest air travel.
Soneva Fushi has successfully implemented an island-wide, insecticide-free mosquito management solution.
As an equal opportunities employer, our ongoing recruitment drive aims to achieve a more balanced representation of female Hosts at Soneva by providing a safe and respectful living and working environment with a clear career path.
As guardians of our precious marine environments, we have pledged to protect the biodiversity and habitats around our resorts. Our ongoing efforts include partnerships with NGO Save Our Seas, the Olive Ridley Project and the International Pole & Line Foundation, as well as the Soneva Foundation to propagate 150,000 corals every year. Learn how we are supporting the Soneva Foundation to rehabilitate corals in the Maldives.
Care for Children was originally established in China to provide foster care for orphaned children, successfully placing over 1 million children in foster homes. A recent UNICEF report recommends a transition from institutional foster care for Thailand’s orphaned and vulnerable children. At the invitation of the Thai government, Care for Children has now partnered with the government to provide training in government-run orphanages on local family placement care practice.
Soneva has funded Care for Children to open a National Foster Care Training and Resource Centre in Chiang Mai. Care for Children will strategically manage and deliver its national training programme from this centre. There are approximately 50,000 orphaned and vulnerable children living in some form of institutional care in Thailand, and the goal is to support the government to ensure all children have the opportunity to live with a family they can call their own.
