Tom Dixon is a restless innovator who rose to prominence in the mid-1980s as a maverick, untrained designer with a line in welded salvage furniture.
In the late 90s, Tom became Creative Director at Habitat and rejuvenated the brand while maintaining Terence Conran’s vision of enriching everyday life through simple, modern design. In 2001, Tom was awarded an OBE by Her Majesty the Queen for his services to British design. In 2014, he was awarded ‘Designer of The Year’ at Maison & Objet, Paris. In 2019, he received a silver medal for Best Garden at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show and in the same year, was awarded the prestigious London Design Medal.
Today, Tom’s acclaimed S chair is part of the permanent collection of the MOMA in New York and the V&A London. His eponymous brand TOM DIXON and creative agency DESIGN RESEARCH STUDIO operate from offices in New York and Hong Kong with a HQ in London’s Kings Cross and the products are distributed in over 90 countries.
During his residency, he will be hosting an exhibition on November 3, 2024 at Soneva Art & Glass – ‘Inclusions, Restrictions, Submersions & Sacrifices’ by Tom Dixon. This exhibition reflects Soneva’s dedication to environmental sustainability, showcasing works crafted from recycled glass and aluminum. Also featured is Tom’s latest project—a structure designed to support coral growth—which will be displayed at Soneva Fushi before its eventual submersion in the reef at Soneva Jani.
Our Soneva Stars programme celebrates the diverse array of guest activities and experiences on offer, ranging from Michelin-starred chefs to sporting legends and acclaimed therapists.
