One of the UK’s most decorated chefs, Simon Hulstone began working in the kitchen at the age of 14 and had several World Junior titles to his name by his early teens. Until 2011, he was the only British Chef to win gold in the World Skills Awards. In 2003, Simon was awarded the coveted Roux Scholarship and went on to win the Craft Guild of Chefs National Chef of the Year award in 2008. Simon is now a senior judge for the Roux Scholarship alongside Michel Roux Jnr. and Alain Roux.
Since 2005, Simon has headed The Elephant with his wife Katy in Torquay, bringing his extensive experience in traditional and world cuisine and putting the English Riviera on the culinary map. The Elephant was awarded a Michelin star in 2005, which it maintains today as well as many national awards.
Simon has twice represented the UK in the Bocuse d’Or, the world’s most challenging and prestigious culinary contest; winning the Bocuse d’or Battle in 2014 in Moscow during a special event for past competitors. He captained the British team in the Culinary Olympics and the English culinary team at the Culinary World Cup in 2010 and 2012. In 2012, Simon was also named a Great Briton and was honoured to cook for the British royal family, Olympic team and 3,000 guests at the Royal Albert Hall.
